Domestic Violence

For some time now, East Shore has been active on the issue of domestic violence.  We have supported women's shelters in Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula Counties by donating funds and supplies.

In support of these shelters, Eastshore will be presenting the play "Eastshore UU Vigina Monologues"
with the proceeds going to these shelters and student ticket proceeds going to Afgan Girls schools.

We also have been involved in the Silent Witness Program.  Each October, we display life-size figures of victims of domestic violence by the road and driveway of the church.  Each wooden cutout figure has a placard on it giving the life and death history of the victim portrayed.  The information on these victims is supplied by the Eastlake Police Department.

There has been an increased demand by women's shelters and educational institutions to borrow our witness figures.

Among other things, our new Domestic Violence Action group will maintain the witness figures and will make more figures, for unfortunately, the list of victims has expanded in the last year.  On the positive side, there has been an increased demand by women's shelters and educational institutions to borrow our witness figures.

We are encouraged by the increased interest in the community in domestic violence issues.
