Our Mission
Believing in the inherent worth of all life, our mutual interdependency, and the need to create a world in which all life has the opportunity to flourish, Unitarian Universalism is deeply rooted in social justice as a direct expression of our faith.
We shall 1) prepare and organize UUs to do powerful social change work, using a reflection, action, collaboration approach; 2) develop and bring a distinctly uu moral voice to the public square; 3) conduct campaigns in coalition, when feasible, with interfaith and secular partners to achieve systemic social change; 4) develop a social change approach that attempts to shift the political climate toward a social agenda that serves the common good.
Therefore, it is the responsibility of the social justice committee to consider, and where appropriate, to include in its varied activities
a) service
b) education
c) organizing
d) advocacy
e) lobbying
f) witness
Adopted June 2007.
Millennium Salon
The Millennium Salon is an after Church discussion group, who meet periodically. We have a speaker to speak on a social justice topic, then we may discuss the topic after the presentation. Lunch is often served at a modest cost.
The Fahr Fund
Several years ago, the Fahr Fund was established at East Shore to honor Irma and her late husband Pete, both of whom were shining examples of commitment to social justice work at East Shore.
The Fahr Fund is used to support specific social justice projects undertaken by East Shore. If you would like more information on the Fahr Fund, or you would like to contribute, you may call or send mail to the church, or the Minister, Art Severance.
